Scientific council


The SESMI Scientific Council is established to ensure research activity and its development at the Institute.

The scope of competence of the Scientific Council includes the following:

  • selection of the main lines of scientific activities in the respective field of research;  
  • development of methodological materials required for scientific activity;
  • cooperation with enterprises, as well as industry associations for scientific and technical implementation of the tasks;
  • attraction of financial funds by implementing domestic and international research projects;
  • qualification advancement of research personnel, training of young scientists;
  • elaboration of recommendations with regard to the results of the research activity pursued by the Institute and their integration into the syllabi of study programmes of RTU and other Latvian higher education establishments;
  • organisation of cooperation with RTU research units, Latvian and foreign higher education establishments and scientific institutions;
  • organisation of seminars and conferences;
  • development of international cooperation in conformity with the aims and activity lines of the Institute;
  • information of the public about the research results and popularisation of scientific results in domestic and international scientific events;
  • election of senior researchers, researchers and research assistants for academic posts;
  • raising of issues on dismissal of scientists before the term;
  • other issues as determined in the legislation governing scientific activity.
